Dear Student,

So you’re going to college…

Going to college is a big decision and an incredibly exciting chapter in your life. First of all, as you think about going to college, you're probably filled with excitement but also feeling nervous at the same time. That is completely normal and how every college freshman feels when they first step foot on campus! While it is a new journey, college is filled with fun adventures, new friendships, growth opportunities, and experiences you’ll never forget. Here is some encouragement and wisdom as you prepare for your first semester at college:

PUT THE LORD FIRST IN ALL YOU DO

Let’s start here. Your relationship with Jesus is infinitely more rewarding to your health, wellbeing, and future than any class, experience, boyfriend/girlfriend, or temporary distraction. But unlike in high school where your parents still played a big part in encouraging you to attend church or youth group, it is now up to you to make your faith and your relationship with Jesus a part of your college experience. Don’t wait! Find opportunities to get plugged into a ministry or church on or near your campus and begin participating in a spiritual community with other college students who will encourage you to continue pursuing Christ. Check to see if there is an H2O Church location near you.

GET TO KNOW THE PEOPLE NEXT TO YOU

Being plugged into a community is crazy important! However, meeting people and making new friends can seem like a daunting task, especially at a larger university. The good news is that most colleges and universities want their students to feel plugged in and offer countless opportunities to get connected with others through events, clubs, campus organizations, and campus ministries. Take advantage of these opportunities! This is one of the best ways to get to know others, begin forming friendships, and to be known!
